What happened in Plymouth, masked men seizing a backhoe at gunpoint and driving it through a commercial building to rob an ATM is not something any of us ever expected to see on this island…….Yet here we are……and if we are being honest with ourselves, it is part of a pattern that has been growing quietly around us.
Tobago has always held onto its identity as the safer island. That identity is now under threat, and I do not see the urgency from those in authority that this moment demands. We need a visible, consistent police presence. We need security infrastructure that actually works. We need a government, both locally and nationally that treats the safety of Tobagonians as a genuine priority, not a talking point raised only after something dramatic makes the news.
The criminals who carried out that raid looked at our community and saw little resistance. We cannot allow that perception to take root.
I love this island too much to stay silent. I am calling on our leaders to act not with words but with real, measurable steps to protect the people of Tobago before this situation deteriorates further.
